Erie County is a metropolitan center along the shore of Lake Erie in western New York State. The population was 954,236 in 2020. However, the population was 946,147 in 2023. The county seat is Buffalo, which makes up about 28% of the county's population. It is home to countless museums, galleries, restaurants, shops, professional and college sports teams and more than a dozen colleges and universities.
